A179 VS A214
ASTM A179 and A214 are both carbon steel specifications for heat exchanger and condenser tubes, and both take their general requirements from ASTM A450/A450M. The difference is not strength — it is the wall. A179 is seamless and cold-drawn, with no joint. A214 is electric-resistance-welded from strip, with a longitudinal weld that governs its pressure design and inspection. Seamless buys reliability in high-pressure, high-temperature or weld-sensitive duty; welded buys cost in moderate service. The choice is set by the design code and the medium, not by price alone.
